Reason # 1: I Love Jesus Because He Became One of Us.

Reading & Reflection

“The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.” John 1:14

There is no truth in Scripture more staggering or more beautiful than this: Jesus became one of us. The eternal Word, through whom all things were created, stepped into human history as a fragile child, breathing our air, walking our roads, and sharing our sorrows and joys.

John tells us that the Word “made His dwelling among us.” The phrase means He “pitched His tent” with us. He moved into our neighborhood. He chose to be near.

This is where our journey begins.
Reason Number 1: I love Jesus because He became one of us.

1. He became one of us to draw near to us. 🌍❤️

In every religion, people reach upward to find God. In the gospel, God bends downward to find us. He enters our world, not from a distance but with presence. Jesus knew hunger, fatigue, laughter, friendship, disappointment, and grief. He welcomed children, embraced the broken, and walked slowly enough for ordinary people to keep up.

Philip Yancey helped me rediscover a Jesus who is not distant or severe but tender and reachable. A Jesus who feels deeply. A Jesus who understands.

I love Him because He did not wait for me to climb up to Him. He came down to me.

2. He became one of us to reveal the Father’s heart. 💛👀

Jesus does not simply speak about God. He shows us what God is like.
He said, “Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father.”

Look at Jesus and you see the Father’s compassion, His patience, His tears at Lazarus’s tomb, His kindness to outcasts, His tenderness to the wounded, and His courage in confronting injustice.

John Eldredge calls Him the “Beautiful Outlaw,” because Jesus breaks the false pictures of God we often carry. He reveals a God who is approachable, joyful, wise, honest, and full of grace.

I love Jesus because He shows me the Father’s heart. A heart that welcomes, heals, and loves without condition.

3. He became one of us to rescue and transform us.⛑️✨

R. C. Sproul reminds us that Jesus did not become flesh only to comfort us. He came to save us. His perfect obedience covers our failures. His humanity made His sacrifice possible. His death satisfies justice and pours out mercy. His resurrection gives us hope beyond the grave.

Salvation is not something we achieve. It is Someone we receive.
Jesus became one of us so that we could become children of God.

4. My testimony: Why this truth is personal to me. 📖🙏

I met Jesus in the first year of secondary school. I was thirteen and a half. I had grown up going to church and honestly did not think there was much I needed to repent about. My school held chapel every Sunday, and during the first term I vividly remember a preacher explaining Romans 10:9, which says that if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

That morning, I realized that I was a sinner and that my good behavior or church upbringing could not save me. I needed help from outside myself. I needed a Savior. That is when I said yes to God and asked Jesus to be Lord of my life.

That was fifty-five years ago. A lot of life has happened since then. I have walked through joys and storms, responsibilities and pressures, ministry and leadership, moments of strength and moments of weakness. But this remains true: It is the most important thing that ever happened to me. Not a single day passes without the awareness that I am a child of God and that I long to please Him with all I have.

And it all began because Jesus became one of us and reached down to a young boy who needed grace.

5. My worship response. 🙌🎶

When I reflect on the miracle of the Word becoming flesh and dwelling among us, my heart is drawn to worship. Like the hymn writer prayed, “Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart,” I realize that the One who came near is the One who must guide my seeing, my thinking, and my living.

And as the worship song says, “Here I am to worship, here I am to bow down,” the only fitting response to a God who stepped into our darkness is humble adoration.

Yet this miracle is also deeply personal, because the God who became one of us invites us to walk with Him every day. In the words of Rebekah Dawn, “Natamani kutembea nawe,” my heart echoes the longing to journey with the One who came close, lived among us, and still walks with His people today.

✨ Reason Number 1 Why I Love Jesus

He became one of us.
So He could draw near.
So He could reveal the Father.
So He could rescue and transform.
So He could walk with me every day.

    • Ooh David – so wonderful to hear from you, and to have fellowship over what brought us together those many years in Edinburgh! I remember fondly how you welcomed me into your life, home, and family- and demonstrated the love of Christ in a way I couldn’t have expected. Every blessing to you, Margaret, and the generations God is giving you through Steve and Zoe.
