An Introduction to My December Reflections
I have been blessed with a long, varied, and multinational career. Over the years, Iβve served at senior levels in the public sector, Christian ministry, international development, and consulting. Each season has stretched and shaped me in ways I could never have anticipated.
In ministry, I had the privilege of serving as General Secretary of the Fellowship of Christian Unions (FOCUS Kenya) in the mid-1980s. Those were deeply formative years, seasons of faith, passion, and movement-building that shaped a generation. Later I served as Associate General Secretary and Chief Administrative Officer of IFES, the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students. About ten years ago, with fellow former FOCUS leaders, we founded Hesabika Trust, a movement calling Christians to take responsibility for societal transformation.
Through all these experiences, whether in boardrooms, workshops, or Christian ministry, in national meetings or quiet prayer, Iβve realised how easy it is, even for me, to miss the main motivation that drives everything I do.
In the midst of such a full life of activity and service, there lies something deeper, an irreducible minimum, a foundation, the reason for my existence, the compass that points my heart home.
That is what I want to share with you.
It is not about a philosophy or a cause.
It is not about an organization or an idea.
It is about someone.
It is about Jesus.
I want to share with you about Him, who He is, what He has done for me, how He first loved me, and how you too can know and love Him.
I fall short of His love and obedience, yet I know deep in my heart that He is my lifeβs centre, the One who anchors my hopes, steadies me in uncertainty, and remains faithful even when I fail.
I seek, however imperfectly, to live for the Audience of One.
He is the Lover of my soul.
That phrase, βthe lover of my soul,β captures something words can hardly express. One of my favourite worship songs says it so simply and beautifully:
π΅ βJesus, Lover of my soul,
Jesus, I will never let You go.
Youβve taken me from the miry clay,
set my feet upon the rock,
and now I know.β
That is my story again and again. He lifted me from my own miry clay, from sin, self-reliance, discouragement, and pride, and set my feet upon the Rock that never moves.
He has carried me through storms and uncertainties, through applause and through silence.
He is my Saviour, my closest Friend, and truly the One I will worship to the very end.
π How I Will Mark Christmas This Year
This December, as we approach Christmas, I want to pause from the noise and return to the simplicity of that love. I want to mark Christmas in a way that reflects what matters most. So, I invite you to join me in a journey of 31 reflections titled β31 Reasons Why I Love Jesus.β
π From Monday, 1 December to Wednesday, 31 December 2025, I plan to share one reason each day.
Each reflection will follow a simple pattern:
π A brief Scripture exposition
π‘ A theological insight on who Christ is
π A personal testimony from my walk with Him
π A worship response, often with a song or hymn
Across the 31 days, we will explore Jesus as the Word Made Flesh, the Lamb of God, the Good Shepherd, the Prince of Peace, and so much more. We will remember what He has done, He forgives, heals, guides, calms, carries, and intercedes. And we will respond with love, because He first loved us.
You might be wondering, βAre there that many reasons to love Jesus?β Saint John the Apostle answers:
π βThere are also many other things that Jesus did. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.β John 21:25
So yes, there are more than enough reasons to love Him. There always will be.
My prayer is that these reflections, my small celebrations of Jesus, the Lover of my soul, will rekindle your love for Him too. Whether you are rediscovering faith or have walked with Him for decades, may your heart be stirred afresh.
May they help you pause, remember, and rediscover the joy of walking with the One who came to dwell among us.
π΅ βMy Saviour, my closest Friend,
I will worship You until the very end.β
