📖“Therefore, He is able to save completely those who come to God through Him, because He always lives to intercede for them.” Hebrews 7:25
There are many ways Jesus cares for us. He teaches us, forgives us, guides us, heals us, comforts us, and strengthens us. Yet one aspect of His ministry often remains quietly in the background, even though it is profoundly sustaining. Jesus prays for us. Continually. Faithfully. Personally. Eternally.
This is why I love Jesus.
❤️ He prays for me always.
1️⃣ I Love Jesus Because He Intercedes With Perfect Understanding
Jesus prays not as a distant observer but as One who knows the human condition from the inside. He experienced hunger and fatigue, pressure and sorrow, temptation and misunderstanding. He knows weakness not by theory but by lived obedience.
Hebrews tells us,
“We do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses.” (Hebrews 4:15)
R. C. Sproul reminds us that Christ’s priesthood is effective precisely because He is both fully God and fully man. He intercedes with divine authority and human sympathy. Jesus does not guess what we need. He does not misread our fears. He does not pray on incomplete information.
Dane Ortlund presses this further by drawing our attention to Christ’s heart. Jesus’ intercession does not flow from irritation with our weakness but from compassion toward it. Our struggles do not repel Him; they draw Him nearer. He prays with full knowledge of our limitations and with unwavering commitment to our good.
There have been seasons in my life, particularly under sustained pressure, when I could not fully articulate the weight I carried. Yet I found comfort in this truth: even when my words failed, Jesus understood. And He prayed for me.
2️⃣ I Love Jesus Because His Prayers Are Always Aligned With the Father’s Will
Scripture assures us that Christ’s intercession is never uncertain or ineffective. Romans 8:27 tells us that intercession within the Godhead is always aligned with the will of God.
Sproul emphasises that Jesus does not plead with the Father as an outsider. He intercedes as the eternal Son, perfectly united in purpose with the Father. His prayers are not hopeful wishes; they are purposeful acts within the divine will.
This gives extraordinary confidence. When I do not know how to pray, Christ prays rightly. When my prayers are confused or incomplete, His are precise and effective. When I am uncertain about God’s will, Jesus intercedes in full harmony with it.
It is astonishing to realise that the One through whom all things were made now prays for those He redeemed. The Author of life intercedes for me. Amazing!
3️⃣ I Love Jesus Because His Prayers Sustain Me in Weakness
Jesus once told Peter,
“I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail.” (Luke 22:32)
Peter would stumble badly. But his faith would not collapse completely. Why? Because Jesus prayed for him.
Ortlund notes that Christ’s prayers do not guarantee the absence of struggle; they guarantee the preservation of faith. Failure may occur, but abandonment does not.
I recognise this pattern in my own life. There have been demanding seasons where prayer felt reduced to simple phrases, moments when I could not depend on the strength or consistency of my own prayers. Yet I was sustained. Not because my faith was strong, but because Christ’s intercession was steady.
I am deeply grateful that my perseverance does not rest finally on my praying, but on His.
4️⃣ I Love Jesus Because He Intercedes Continually, Not Occasionally
Hebrews says that Jesus “always lives to intercede.”
Always. Not sometimes.
Not when I do well.
Not when I pray enough.
Not when I feel spiritual.
Sproul points out that Christ’s priesthood did not end with the cross or resurrection. It continues unbroken. While earthly priests age, weaken, and die, Christ’s intercession is uninterrupted and eternal.
This truth is profoundly stabilising. There are days when my prayer life feels vibrant, and days when it feels thin. Yet Christ’s intercession never fluctuates. While I work, He intercedes. While I rest, He intercedes. Even when I forget to pray, He continues.
Ortlund helps us see that this constancy is not mechanical. Jesus does not intercede out of obligation but out of love. His heart is fully engaged in His ongoing care for His people.
5️⃣ I Love Jesus Because His Prayers Secure My Salvation and My Future
Hebrews 7:25 tells us that Jesus saves completely because He intercedes continually. His prayers ensure that nothing essential is left unfinished.
His intercession secures:
• My faith will endure.
• My hope will stand.
• My steps will be guided.
• My life will bear fruit.
• My calling will be fulfilled.
• My salvation will be complete.
My confidence does not rest in my performance but in His priesthood. I stand not because I hold on tightly to Him, but because He holds me securely and prays for me faithfully.
This is why the future is not frightening. It is guarded by the prayers of Christ.
🎵 My Worship Response
Today’s worship reflection begins with “Before the Throne of God Above.”
“My name is written on His heart.”
That line captures the quiet assurance of Christ’s intercession.
“Spirit Lead Me” becomes my prayerful response, a recognition that I am guided not by my strength but by His presence.
And “We Testify” by Deborah Lukalu rises as confident praise.
We testify that He is good, faithful, and sustaining.
🙏 Lord Jesus, thank You for praying for me always. When my prayers are weak, let Your intercession sustain me. Keep my faith steady, my heart anchored, and my life secure in You.
