# 8: He Brings Peace to My Soul

Reading & Reflection

📖“For to us a child is born… and His name shall be called… Prince of Peace.”  Isaiah 9:6

Peace is one of the deepest longings of the human heart. Not the temporary quiet that comes when life slows down, and not the fragile calm that depends on circumstances remaining favorable, but a deep and enduring peace that settles the soul even when everything around us feels unsettled.

When Isaiah prophesied about the Messiah, he used many majestic titles. Wonderful Counselor. Mighty God. Everlasting Father. Yet one title touches us in the most personal way. Prince of Peace.

He is not simply a source of peace. He is peace Himself.

This is why I love Jesus.
❤️ He brings peace to my soul.

1️⃣ I love Jesus because His peace is rooted in the Cross.
John Stott teaches that true peace is not a feeling we cultivate but a reality God establishes through Christ’s atoning work. At the cross, Jesus deals decisively with the hostility that existed between God and humanity. Sin had created an enmity we could never remove, yet Stott notes that Christ’s sacrifice satisfies God’s righteous judgement and opens the way for reconciliation.

Paul declares, “We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Romans 5:1. This peace is not fragile or sentimental. It is the objective state of being welcomed by God because the barrier of guilt has been removed.

This truth reshaped my understanding of peace. It is not the absence of trouble; it is the presence of restored relationship. It rests not on my performance but on Christ’s finished work. Because the Cross has reconciled me, I can rest securely before God.

I love Jesus because His Cross gives me a peace that nothing can overturn.

2️⃣ I love Jesus because His peace guards my heart and mind.

Jesus told His disciples,
“My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives.” (John 14:27)

Worldly peace is shallow. It evaporates the moment trouble arrives. But Christ offers a peace that stays, a peace that flows from His presence rather than from outward conditions.

Paul describes it as the peace that “surpasses all understanding”, guarding our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Guarding. Surrounding. Protecting.

There have been seasons where my mind was under pressure.
Leading FOCUS Kenya at a young age, carrying responsibility that felt larger than my experience.
Navigating an international role based in United Kingdom, and regional work across Africa, with their complexity, urgency, and weight.

Walking through moments of family concern and personal transitions.

Carrying burdens for programs, teams, and institutions that needed stability and direction.

In these moments, I discovered something supernatural. The peace of Christ did not remove the responsibility, but it prevented the responsibility from crushing me. His peace guarded my heart from fear and my mind from anxiety.

I love Jesus because His peace protects me from the inside out.

3️⃣ I love Jesus because His peace calms the storms around me.

Peace is not the absence of storms. It is the presence of Jesus within the storm.

On the Sea of Galilee, the disciples panicked while Jesus slept. They cried out, “Lord, do You not care?” He rose and said, “Peace. Be still.” And creation obeyed Him.

I have faced storms in leadership, ministry, organizational change, and personal life.
Sudden crises. Relationship strains. Unexpected losses. Heavy decisions. Times when the future felt uncertain. In those seasons, I often prayed while walking outside, or journaling late at night, or kneeling quietly at dawn.

Again and again, the Prince of Peace met me.
Sometimes He calmed the storm around me.
Other times He calmed the storm within me.
Both were miracles of grace.

I love Jesus because His peace has authority over every storm I face.

4️⃣ I love Jesus because His peace commissions me for mission.

True peace is not passive. It is powerful. It sends us back into the world with renewed strength.

When Jesus appeared to His disciples after the resurrection, His first words were, “Peace be with you.” His second words were, “As the Father has sent Me, so I am sending you.” (John 20:21)

Peace and mission belong together.
His peace steadies our feet.
His peace strengthens our voice.
His peace prepares us to serve in a world that is anything but peaceful.

Looking back at my life and especially at the intersections of life and ministry where I needed to make decisions, I noted that one way God signals His will in a difficult decision is by giving peace. Whether it was leaving my original professional career to join ministry, or taking up an international assignment that did not fit my career trajectory or deciding how much of our family income to devote to ministry, I have often experienced His peace commissioning me for mission.

I love Jesus because His peace does not only comfort me. It equips me.

🎵 My Worship Response

Today’s worship song is “Oceans” by Hillsong UNITED.

“Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders.”
“You call me out upon the waters.”

This song captures the experience of trusting Jesus in uncertain places. It reminds me that peace is not found in the shallows, but in walking with Christ in deep waters where only His presence can hold me.

“Be Still My Soul” echoes the same truth, calling the heart to rest in God’s steadfast care. Alongside it, the Kenyan worship song “Siteketei” by Angel Benard offers a living testimony, “I will not be consumed, for You are with me.” This expresses the heart of peace: the assurance that Christ remains with us no matter what the fire looks like.

🙏 Lord Jesus, fill my heart with Your peace. Quiet my fears. Anchor my thoughts. Strengthen my spirit. Let Your presence be my calm, my confidence, and my rest.

✨ Reason # 8 Why I Love Jesus

He brings peace to my soul, peace with God, peace in my mind, peace in my storms, and peace that strengthens me for His mission.
