#27: I Love Jesus Because He Brings Joy to the World

Reading & Reflection

📖 “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.” Luke 2:10

Joy is one of the most distinctive notes of Christmas. It is not mere happiness, sentiment, or seasonal cheer. Biblical joy is deep, steady, and resilient. It flows from the presence of Christ Himself.

When the angels announced Jesus’ birth, they did not speak of obligation or burden. They proclaimed good news of great joy. Jesus entered a world shaped by fear, sorrow, and loss, not to deny those realities, but to overcome them.

This is why I love Jesus.
❤️ He brings joy to the world.

1️ I love Jesus because His joy displaces fear.

The first words the angels spoke were, “Do not be afraid.” Fear is often the first reaction of the human heart when God draws near. Yet the arrival of Jesus does not intensify fear; it removes it. His presence reassures, restores, and heals.

Dane Ortlund helps us see why. Jesus does not come with a clenched fist but with a gentle heart. His nearness is not threatening but inviting. Fear gives way to joy because Christ comes not to crush the weary, but to carry them.

Scripture describes this joy not as the absence of hardship, but as the presence of salvation. Peter writes of a joy that is “inexpressible and filled with glory,” rooted in the saving work of Christ, not in changing circumstances.

I love Jesus because His joy steadies my heart when fear tries to rule.

2️ I love Jesus because His joy is for all people, including me.

The angels declared that this joy is for all people. Not only the strong or the spiritual, but the weary, the overlooked, and the broken.

John MacArthur reminds us that the incarnation is not selective or sentimental. Christ came into the world as Savior, not merely example. His joy flows from redemption accomplished, not human qualification. Because He came to bear sin, His joy can reach sinners everywhere.

This joy is both global and personal. Wide enough to embrace the world. Near enough to meet me where I am.

I love Jesus because His joy does not exclude me; it claims me

3️ I love Jesus because His joy strengthens me in every season.

“The joy of the Lord is your strength,” Nehemiah declares. Joy in Scripture is not decoration. It is endurance. It sustains faith when energy fades and renews hope when the road feels long.

The strength Christ gives does not arise from favourable conditions. It arises from His finished work. MacArthur emphasises that joy grows where confidence in salvation is secure. When redemption is settled, joy becomes steady.

This is why joy can carry us through demanding seasons. It is not rooted in outcomes, but in Christ Himself.

I love Jesus because His joy gives me strength beyond my own.

4️ I love Jesus because His joy enters the darkest places.

The shepherds were in the fields at night when the glory of God shone around them. Joy came into the dark. Joy came where fear lived. Joy came to those who were overlooked.

This is the nature of Christ’s joy.
It does not wait for ideal conditions.
It enters shadows.
It meets ordinary lives.
It transforms unseen moments.

Ortlund reminds us that Jesus is especially drawn to those in weakness and obscurity. Joy shines brightest where need is deepest.

Joy came because Jesus came.

I love Jesus because His joy does not avoid darkness; it overcomes it.

5️ I love Jesus because His joy leads me to worship.

When the shepherds heard the angels’ announcement, their first response after seeing Jesus was praise. Joy and worship are inseparable. When joy fills the heart, worship flows easily. When the soul recognizes the Savior, gratitude rises naturally.

True worship is joy expressed. It is the heart responding to the presence of Christ. When salvation is clear, praise follows. When grace is known, worship rises.

Jesus brings joy that lifts the eyes from circumstances to God, joy that turns gratitude into praise, and joy that awakens wonder.

I love Jesus because His joy leads my heart to worship.

🎵 My Worship Response

• “Joyful, Joyful”
A gentle rendition that captures the quiet, steady joy Christ brings. It reminds me that joy is not loudness but depth.

• “Here for You” by Travis Greene
This song shifts joy into devotion. It acknowledges the presence of Christ and invites Him to dwell. Joy becomes surrender.

• “We Love Your Name” by IHOP
A worship expression that lingers on the beauty of Jesus. As His name is lifted, joy rises, and the heart rests in His presence.

🙏 Lord Jesus, thank You for bringing joy to the world and joy to my heart. Let Your joy steady me, strengthen me, and lead me to worship. May this joy shine through my life so that others may see You.
