#16: He Speaks Peace to My Storms

Reading & Reflection

📖 “He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, ‘Quiet, be still.’ Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.” Mark 4:39

Storms come to every life. Some storms are visible. Others are hidden deep within. Storms of uncertainty, storms of pressure, storms of grief, storms of transition, storms of emotional strain, storms that arise without warning. Often, when I or those close to me are caught in such storms, I find myself praying for the peace that Scripture calls “beyond understanding.”

As Michael Eaton explains in his Branch Commentary on the Bible, this peace is not a mood or a coping technique, but a miraculous guarding of the heart and mind that comes when we live, pray, and entrust ourselves to God as Paul teaches.

In those moments, we do not need clichés or quick solutions. We need the presence and the voice of Jesus.

This is why I love Jesus.
❤️ He speaks peace to my storms.

1️⃣ I love Jesus because He is present even when He seems silent.
The disciples panicked because Jesus was asleep in the boat. The storm was fierce, the waves were high, and they feared for their lives. Yet Jesus had not abandoned them. His silence was not absence. His rest was not neglect. He was in the boat with them. Eaton points out that “because Jesus is the divine Lord of the universe he can cope with every emergency. Because he was the Son of Man, a human being, he can relate to us and our world and our needs. He combines deity and humanity, power and compassion.”

There have been times in my life when I felt God was silent while responsibilities increased, demands multiplied, or circumstances became unclear. Yet I discovered something important. Jesus was still in the boat. He had not left. His presence was my anchor.

Sometimes His presence is felt strongly. Other times it is quiet and almost hidden. Yet He is always near.

I love Jesus because His presence does not depend on my feelings. It is constant, steady, and faithful.

2️ I love Jesus because His peace is stronger than any storm.

When Jesus spoke, the storm obeyed.
The wind stopped.
The waves calmed.
The sea settled.

Creation recognised the voice of its Creator. His authority was unquestioned. The disciples asked in awe,
“Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey Him.”

There is no circumstance in my life that is beyond the authority of Jesus, and I am continually learning to trust His power in every kind of storm.

• Storms of anxiety.
• Storms of leadership pressure.
• Storms of transition.
• Storms of relational strain.
• Storms of uncertainty about the future.

In moments when the storm within me feels louder than the storm around me, Christ speaks peace to my heart. The circumstances do not always change quickly, but I am learning to receive His peace as it enters the situation with quiet authority.

I love Jesus because His peace is stronger than any storm I face.

3️⃣ I love Jesus because He steadies my inner world before He stills the waves around me.
Often the fiercest storms are not external. They rise within the mind and heart. Fear that distorts perspective. Worry that drains strength. Confusion that clouds judgment. Emotional fatigue that quietly accumulates in the private world of the soul.

Jesus begins His work there.
He anchors the mind.
He settles the heart.
He clarifies what fear has blurred.

Philippians 4:7 reminds us,
“The peace of God will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”

There are moments when the outward situation remains unchanged, yet something decisive happens within. My inner world is reordered, and I find myself able to think clearly, respond wisely, and endure patiently. Christ has not removed the storm yet, but He has restored my inner capacity to face it.

I love Jesus because He meets me in the hidden battles and brings order where no one else can see.

4️ I love Jesus because His peace teaches me to trust.

Storms expose what we rely on. They reveal whether we trust our own strength or the presence of Jesus.

When the disciples cried out, Jesus gently asked,
“Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

This was not a rebuke of their humanity, but an invitation to deeper trust.

Storms have taught me lessons that calm days never could:

• Trust is learned in uncertainty.
• Faith is strengthened under pressure.
• Dependence on God deepens when human strength fails.
• Peace becomes more real when circumstances are unstable.

In seasons of personal, work, and ministry challenges, my faith has matured because Christ used the storm to teach me trust. The waves that threatened to overwhelm became the very waves that carried me deeper into His grace.

I love Jesus because His peace calls me to deeper faith.

5️ I love Jesus because He brings me safely through the storm.

Jesus does not only calm storms. He brings us through them.
He leads us to the other side.

Mark 4 says that Jesus said to His disciples,
“Let us go over to the other side.”

The storm came, but the destination was assured. Many seasons of my life have felt like crossings through uncertainty, transition, heavy responsibility, and emotional strain.

Yet each time, Christ brought me to the other side. Sometimes the storm ended suddenly. Other times it took time. But His faithfulness never failed.

I love Jesus because He completes what He begins and leads me safely to the place He has chosen.

🎵 My Worship Response
Today’s worship reflection is “Master, the Tempest Is Raging.” It captures the moment when fear rises and the heart cries out for Jesus to speak.

Another worship reflection is “I Speak Jesus” by Here Be Lions.
“Your name is power, Your name is healing, Your name is life.”
This song reminds me that when Jesus speaks, the storm does not argue. It becomes still.

A further reflective moment comes through “Still” by Hillsong, which recalls Christ’s command, “Quiet, be still,” and invites me to rest in His authority even while the waves are present.

When Jesus speaks, the wind begins to subside, and I find myself learning to be still in His presence.

🙏 Lord Jesus, speak peace to every storm in my life. Calm my fears. Quiet my thoughts. Strengthen my heart. Help me trust You in every season and bring me safely to the other side.

Reason # 16 Why I Love Jesus

He speaks peace to my storms, stills my fears, strengthens my faith, and brings me safely through.
